Patti Grant, RN, BSN, MS, CIC, FAPIC
Patti has been an Infection Preventionist for over 30 years in hospitals ranging from 1000-bed University-Teaching Level I Trauma Centers, to small for-profit acute care community facilities. She is certified in Infection Control (CIC) continuously since 1992 and earned Fellow APIC status in 2016. She was the 2019 president of APIC Consulting, 2013 International APIC president, and the 1998 president for the Texas Society for Infection Control and Prevention. Her largest passion is helping new IP’s believe in themselves so they will “give back” to help the next generation, by striving to show how IP’s can contribute outside of large university settings. Patti enjoys public policy challenges and publishes in peer-review journals on ‘everyday things’ IP’s take for granted (hidden contributions), along with articles that help others not ‘reinvent the wheel’ in their practices.
Patti is the recipient of several awards reflecting her contributions over the years: The Great 100 Nurse for Dallas-Fort Worth in 1994, the 1997 University of North Texas Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation Beulah A. Harris Honor Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Promotion, 1997 APIC New Investigator Award, 2001 Gerre Haynes Award Recipient for Excellence in Infection Control from the Texas Society of Infection Control Professionals, APIC 2011 Chapter Leadership Award, and spearheading her healthcare facility to earn The Texas Medical Foundation Quality Institute/Texas Hospital Association Gold Texas Hospital Quality Improvement Award in 2014. She is serving her third term on the Editorial Review Board for the American Journal of Infection Control and is a member of the Editorial Review Board for Critical Care Nursing Quarterly. Patti is a former “Who’s Who in Infection Prevention” sponsored by Infection Control Today, wrote the “IP Newbie” column for the newsletter Hospital Infection Control and Prevention from 2008 through 2014, and remains a consistent contributor to APIC’s Prevention Strategist magazine.
